Burlington splits cleanly into two kinds of basement. North of the QEW, Millcroft, The Orchard and Alton went up from the late 1980s through the 2000s with poured-concrete foundations, eight-foot ceilings and, often, a bathroom rough-in already cast into the slab. Those basements are ready to finish. The work is design, not repair: where the theatre wall goes, how a wet bar ties into the existing plumbing, whether the space under the stairs becomes storage or a wine nook.
South of the highway, Aldershot and the streets off Brant near downtown carry 1950s and 1960s bungalows with block foundations and ceilings closer to seven feet. Those need a moisture assessment before anything else, sometimes an egress window, and occasionally a frank conversation about whether underpinning is worth it or whether a dry, well-lit seven-foot basement is the smarter spend.
Permits go through the City of Burlington Building department, and a finished basement with a new bathroom or bedroom needs one. Our licensed structural engineer prepares and stamps the drawings, and we file them.
